It's Been A Minute ...

We know we know! Took us a bit to recover from the Barbarella job. But now we're back ta' blogging with lots of new art pics to show. A couple more pieces completed and we hope to be on our way to our first art show. Oh la la. Sounds so artsy.

From 70's cowboys to owls to legwarmer warriors ... we got it covered.

Best of Austin!

Barbarella was voted Best New Club in Austin! Not only is our spacey art a reason to check it out, but I guess it's where all the cool kids go.

Oh my, neighbors

Good neighbors are hard to come by. You know, ones that keep their front yard presentable, don’t have dogs barking all night. Talk to you just enough, but aren’t breathing down you neck constantly … keep their beer bottles in their own yard, along with their dog’s poop. The ones that will keep an eye on your house and pets when you are out of town, but not rob you blind. Those kind of neighbors. Luckily, we have a neighbor like that. A nice older couple.
Well, today, they bumped themselves up from good neighbors, to great neighbors. When I came home today, this …

was waiting for me on my back porch.
Gifts from my neighbors. Just left on my porch. No note, just two lovely flamingos wearing flip flops with open wings waiting to hold potted plants.

The best part is, they left these lovely birds on my back porch, I suspect afraid someone might try and steal them off my front porch. These two pinkies take kitsch to a whole new level. How will I ever thank my awesome neighbors enough?

Going Green

I've had some good finds from the trash.

Like this chair, which I pulled off a corner in Montrose in Houston.

My husband found this years ago in the trash in Crestview, right here in the ATX.

You just gotta keep your eyes open.

Boobarella

We were asked to do an art collage for the bar Barbarella on Red River.
Super cool little spot next to Emo's. Voted the best dance club in Austin. Needless to say we were thrilled beyond belief. I mean, it's Barbarella, the messenger of love. We couldn't wait to dig in to some 60's spaced out sci-fi art. Luckily the fam went out of town and after work we would cut. On our days off, drink. It was a ton of work, way more than we anticipated. Check out the sampling below. All these pieces (plus more) fit together to make one long intergalactic bar. But this is just a sample. To get the full effect, you gotta go have a beer there!

Hoopties in space.

Boink.
Lots o' ladies.

Lots o' love.
Usable art!
As usual, the pictures don't do it justice!

Pimp My Drill

Awhile back, we acquired a drill press that was all but life changing for our projects. Well now, my man went all awesome and tricked it out for me. The problem was that I would have to carry it from my garage to a table on the patio every time I used it (it's heavy people). Then I got lazy and would just work on the floor in the garage. Um, well, my man was not excited about all the plexiglas shavings (that the drill press makes) on the floor of his garage ... so he went out and purchased this table with wheels off craigslist for 20 bucks. A real hooptie. Not pretty, but it did the trick. Then ... a couple of wild hairs later, I ended up with this bad boy! Ditched the particle board top for a wood top, bolted down the drill press, a hook on the side for the cord, plus two sets of storage underneath. Meow ... this baby is fresh.
