Good Idea!

We keep trying to tell y'all that the frames are 3D and all versatile. Here's one idea. Knitting!

She had a piece that she just loved the colors in. Blues, green and browns, yep some of our favs too. Couldn't toss it, so it found a home in a coke bottle frame.

Twinkies

We ♥ John Hung Ha!

This is like a full on 1980's school girl crush for us. We had to have matching art. (Can you guess which one's Wendy's and which one's Melissa's?)

John won best mixed media at Art City and sold all his art during the festival. And what an inspiration. He CUTS out all that stuff y'all. It's crazy intricate. The flowers are smiling at you. For real. Which got us thinking.......

Art is in the Air

Yep, it is. Crazy, crazy week for the Art Alliance and all things downtown in Austin. We had so much fun and walked away with some matching art work.

It started Tuesday night with an opening to Art Week.

But I drank and talked too much, it got dark and I didn't take pics of anything else. That's my usual MO.
Then Saturday was the actual ART CITY which turned out to be so cool. We had so much hype. In the Statesman, Chronicle, News 8, KVUE, Fox. They all were into it. My favorite thing was this.
A giant Plexiglas cube filled with kid art. My favorite medium with my favorite type of artist.

And Magda's cool installs.

I didn't really take a lot of pictures because I was busy walking up and down Cesar Chavez 1000 times from stage to stage and was being yelled at by various people that the music was too loud. But at least this was my view.

Art City!

It's been two weeks since we posted.....wow. Well lots 'o change here at ModPlexi, but we still hustlin' and this week I promise to deliver the goods!

Right now I've been working on this great event here called Art City! It's a 60 year old event that started as a little festival and has grown to include close to 200 artist.

Tomorrow night kicks it off with the opening of Art Week where they have amazing installations in the 2nd Street Warehouse District. (Pics coming later this week.) They also have art talks, bike art tours, think tanks and other cool stuff.

My good friend Magda Sayeg will be putting up some cool installation pieces like this.

She's not the only artist to install on site, so just imagine. (Random side note, we're working on framing a knitted piece right now!)

There's a kids area, where the all talented Matt Sonzala will be DJing kids music and the city hall stage will feature bands like these guys.

Hope to see you there!

Spring makes my heart go pitter patter

I love you Spring ... wondrous and fabulous. If only you weren't the gateway to mosquitoes, gnats in my wine, frizzy hair, and other such summertime hazards. But for now ... I celebrate and adore you!

BIG Time

We woke up from our SXSW daze to this....we made it on APARTMENT THERAPY! An awesome write up about our address plaques. We are beyond thrilled!!

But before we started our journey for music and free Lone Star we hung this super nice, super BIG piece last week.

It was a little over 4 feet by 5 feet. No joke. We attached a piece of plexiglas flat to the wall on top of her artwork. I'm not sure we knew what we were getting ourselves into, but it turned out to be a real show stopper.

March Comes Marchin' In

It's taken us a minute to post this up because although we are obsessed with plexi, SXSW is right around the corner and this once a year addiction has been all consuming.

Austin Monthly did a super nice little piece on us. Page 36 y'all. Don't we look fancy?
