WEST Austin Studio Tour 2013

It's go-time around the Modplexi studio --- the mad dash to get our art ready to go for WEST. Tons of plexiglas ordered, razorblades flying, fingers cramped from cutting. We are getting there ... and we are getting our ladies ready for showtime.

These are just parts of the process of plaque making. Recently, we got our biggest order to date, and had to crank out massive amounts of plaques at once. Needless to say, we had no problem tying our hair up in do-rags and getting on the factory line.

We will be terribly busy all day, in deep preparations for the new season of Mad Men.
Booze accounted for, ice cubes chilled, kids tucked away ...

Reinventing the Planter

There's always some type of project going on at my house. Fixing up, redoing, painting, gluing ... I'm sure you can relate. All too often though things don't quite end up how I envisioned or I get distracted and never finish. This time, however, my project turned out exactly like I was hoping, & I freakin' love it! I got this urn looking planter from my mom.

Boring. Enter in a can of spray paint & bam, a badass is born.

I usually mess up when I spray paint because I glob it on and it inevitably drips. This time, I was patient and ended up with a great look. I love it. So big, and perfect. I want more in different colors and shapes.

I had this unruly succulent with no home - may my new planter tame it!

Our esthetic isn't country, despite being in Texas.  I was super shocked to find art I liked in Wimberly.

I found this awesome mask from Chris London. 

I was even more excited to learn that Chris is a woman.

Then I bought this rock.

Made by Mother Nature, one of my favorite ladies.

Back In Black

We may have let SXSW get the best of us and fall a bit behind (it's inevitable when you live in Austin, seriously), but we're back on schedule with a fresh batch of all black plaques ready to ship.

Now we gotta get busy on our collage art. Lots to do before WEST happens in April. We have some great new pieces brewing ....
