Modern Address Plaques Taken to a Whole New Level

Man oh man was I stoked to work on this one. First of all, I got to work with these custom powder coated house numbers from Dwell.

Then, I get to see my work mounted ....

 I mean seriously, right? That's me on the far left - my work on this ridiculously amazing CA house - hopefully forever and ever and ever ever after.

Art Show at Black Star Co-op

For the next month we will have all kinds of art up at Black Star Co-op. A mix of old and new pieces to check out while you drink rad craft beer and eat rad food.

"Thought Bubbles" - think American Horror Story.

This is a piece we decided to reworked and have the most ridiculous crush on. It's huge and rocks when you see it in person. "Barbarella Gets a Facelift."

 A section of "Double Life." She plays housewife by day and then kicks it with her homies at night.

 "1969" - original Chinese propaganda poster from 1969 cut up and redefined.

 "Joan" caught up in all kinds of light confusion. Since all of our pieces are captured within plexiglas it makes it tricky to get pictures because of the reflections. Check them out in person to get the real vision.

Hundreds and Hundreds of Modern Address Plaques

Digging myself out and back to reality. Just finished up a big apartment complex address job. Super rad and pumped to take it on but I'm not gonna lie, it definitely took over my life for a few months. When you come home one day to see this:

5 boxes packed with house numbers, you know it's time to get busy. The job consisted of lots of single address plaques plus directionals. My kitchen turned into a production line. 

And then the directional plaques were on grey plexiglas, which really made the cool ribbon style modern house numbers pop.

 Very clean lines, giving the plaques a nod to mid century but really just keepin' it clean and modern.

All shipped off to California ... not to catch up on everything else!

EAST Austin Studio Tour 2014

It's time for the yearly massive overload of art. EAST!!! This studio tour is the best time to see tons of Austin artists and have a great time. Our show, "Degenerate," will consist of almost all new pieces that we are super pumped to show - a definite evolution has happened with our work in the last year. We will be showing with 4 other rad artists. Swing by for a hang and a look at lots of art. Let's talk art and drink a beer.

One of the most amazing videos. Worth every second of your time. She is so classic.

Modern Arts Museum of Fort Worth

Living in Austin, I certainly get my mad dose of art - art in every notion fathomable. But I have to say, every time (ok, it's only been two times) I go to Fort Worth I am in serious art geek mode. The whole vibe of their art district or whatever they call it is great. My visit to the Modern Arts Museum was killer. Two videos I took - showing a glimpse of the immense collection/diversity they were currently showing. 

Sean Scully. The "holy mother of this moment" factor of this exhibit was not lost on me.

Kenny Scharf. The "holy shit I am in the most amazing New York apartment closet ever" was not lost on me. One of the best sensory overloads I have ever experienced. The video is sketchy because I had to sneak it, but I had to video this unbelievable stimulated moment of everything that is good and right and good and perfect and utter chaos and good. And did I mention, good?

Play both videos at the same time for the best viewing.

DUE EAST Group Exhibition

It's so close to EAST 2014 - I can not wait!! It's a win win - I get to show lots of pieces of art and I get to see lots of art. This is our submission piece for the group exhibition and kick off party, DUE EAST. 

 

 "Eyed" is the name of this bad boy, and the longer your stare, the creepier it gets.

The Seventh Motel

A recent commission piece turned out so rad. Love it so much, one of the biggest pieces we've made. Had a hard time getting a picture without reflections. "The Seventh Motel."

Custom House Numbers Gone Good

I love custom pieces. Your ideas, new numbers, new shapes, new ideas make for some of the best moments.

Black on white - super striking. Super bold.

 This custom order used some of my most favorite numbers. Modern, yet tricky.

 This piece, really stretched my mind and my ability. Had to really think and work to make it happen - and wow - it really worked. One of my absolute favorite plaques I have ever built.

It's the size of a toddler, and has the presence of a bull at the running of the bulls. It really is amazing -- and owns everything!!

A batch of address plaques

Just a few of my favorite June plaques. I used to think that every plaque should be transparent - but the more I see the opaque colors the more I like. And then, when they get tricked out with a custom request, I like them even more. 

When I started making these plaques, in my mind it was always about modern or mid-century homes. I love when I get pictures of the plaques on every type/style of house - and they totally work. Just goes to show, gotta be open minded.
